EARTHQUAKE
地震
Earthquakes are frequent in Japan. To avoid confusion, please
remember the following. |
When an earthquake occurs:
- First, to prevent fire, turn off all gas ranges, stoves, etc.,
that are in use.
- Do not run out of the house. Duck under a sturdy table.
- Stay out of the way of things or structures that may fall
over, such as cinder block walls and vending machines.
- Evacuate on foot, and keep your baggage to a minimum.
- Turn on the radio/TV, and follow the broadcasted directions.
|
Everyday safety measures:
- Secure furniture that may topple easily to pillars, walls,
etc.
- Keep emergency food, drinking water, a flashlight, a portable
radio, etc. all handy.
- Each district in Japan has a designated evacuation area. You
should know where it is in advance.
- Decide on a place where you and your family can meet when
separated by a disaster.
